One of the biggest mistakes I see with lettering i

One of the biggest mistakes I see with lettering is starting without knowing where the center is.

Before I draw anything, I count the letters and find my center point. In this piece, “INCARNATION” has 11 letters, making the center letter the “N.” If I don’t land on that center guideline when I reach the N, I know I’m either spacing too tight or too wide.

Another thing to consider is that not all letters take up the same amount of space. Letters like W and M require more room because of their structure, while letters like I take up less. Understanding these small details helps create balanced, readable lettering that flows with the body.

The secret isn’t just drawing letters—it’s understanding spacing.

ENCARNACIÓN

1st session outline , I did on my client @266marcos.

This one was definitely a challenge. Fitting 11 Old English letters across his back took about 2 hours of sketching, measuring, and adjusting to get everything sitting just right. ✍️

With large lettering projects like this, the smallest changes can make a huge difference. Getting the proportions, spacing, and overall flow to work across the entire back was the biggest part of the process.

In the end, I was really happy with how it turned out.

I’ll also be releasing a reel breaking down my process for this piece, including how I approached the layout, proportions, and the math behind making everything flow evenly across the back.

We ran with some custom script spelling out
“Fuck The World “ 🌎 just above his already existing tattoos . What was difficult about this piece was getting that scripture consistent with a Good flow without touching his tattoos .

After a few attempts we finally got it dialed in 🙏
