1st mural in Honolulu ,Oahu

“Kalihi Valley”

After wrapping up three weeks of tattooing in Maui, I flew to Oahu to paint a mural for @kvibekkv —a nonprofit I’ve been connected to for the past five years. K-Vibe (Kalihi Valley Instructional Bike Exchange) is all about empowering youth through bikes, mentorship, and creative expression. They turn bikes into “urban canoes”—tools to explore, grow, and build community. Anytime I’m in town, I try to show up for the young kuyas like an older brother would. This time, they invited me to paint something meaningful for the heart of Kalihi Valley.

The mural took six full days to complete. I expected to finish quicker, but weather delays and the scale of the wall made it a grind. I used the doodle grid method—drawing random shapes across the wall and overlaying my design digitally to line everything up. It’s only my third or fourth time using that technique, and it was definitely a challenge. The K-Vibe kids helped with priming, and friends and locals showed love throughout the process.

The design features bold Kalihi Valley lettering across the center, surrounded by a Hawaiian landscape—ocean, mountains, palm trees, and a kava plant. On the right side, I painted a portrait of Joseph Kahahawai Jr., a Hawaiian man who was falsely accused and murdered in 1932. This was my fourth portrait of him. His story is tragic but important, and I believe more people—especially outside Hawaii—should know his name and what he stood for.

This mural is more than paint—it’s a tribute to Kalihi’s roots, a reminder of resilience, and a gift to the next generation. I’m grateful to K-Vibe for the trust and to the community for welcoming me in. Mahalo, Kalihi Valley—until next time.

Just wrapped up three weeks of tattooing in Lahaina, Maui— from March 20th to April 6th at @banyantreetattoo in Whalers Village. This was my third trip in the last seven months, and it’s been amazing working with both locals and tourists on island-style pieces and custom designs.

Just wrapped up a two-week guest spot at @banyantreetattoo here in Lahaina, Maui—March 20th to April 3rd. This marks my third time working on the island in the last seven months, and every trip reminds me why I keep coming back.

I’ve been helping out at the shop, meeting a mix of locals and visitors, and creating some meaningful tattoos along the way. From island-inspired pieces to personal tributes, it’s been a solid stretch of work.

Portland Tour 2021 (Part 2) is live! This one was a crazy grind tattooing from 11 AM to almost 2 AM @sparkyztattoo in Hawthorne, Oregon. I knocked out 4 tattoos , some special moments:

-tattooing alongside my brother @jordantrujillogdt

- Tattooed @badtimedonnie of the artists at Sparky’s, on his face. It’s always an honor to tattoo other tattooers.

- @max.ireland a well-known Portland tattoo artist, hit me up to get the a letter tattooed on his sideburn.

- Finished my client’s -Mi Vida Loca
stomach piece—this one meant a lot to me.
- Ended up doing three sideburn tattoos in one day!

LA tattoo artists don’t realize how valuable their skills are—until they leave the city.

Coming from LA, where the tattoo game is stacked with talent, it’s easy to feel like just another artist. But once you take that same skill set to cities where black and gray or fine lettering isn’t as common, you realize just how sought-after it is.

Every time I tattoo in places like Portland or Minnesota, I see firsthand how much people appreciate LA-style black and gray. I’ve been booked solid just by offering what’s rare in these cities.

Traveling allows you to plant seeds—introducing styles that aren’t easily found there. That demand keeps you busy, builds your name in multiple cities, and expands your client base.

“I decided to offer Paul, the front desk guy at my apartment, a free tattoo after months of him looking out for me without even knowing what I do for a living. When I finally told him I’m a tattoo artist, I thought it would be a cool way to thank him and get more people in the building to check out my work. Paul took a few months to accept the offer because he couldn’t decide on a design and also struggled to get a day off. But after his girlfriend got tattooed, he finally pulled the trigger! I did some freehand custom script lettering for him with a design that says “raised on rice”something he grew up eating. It felt good gifting him that tattoo as he always takes care of me when I need help , and now he’s proudly showing it off to everyone in the building. Just Finished this black and gray Aztec-inspired forearm piece for my client at @artifactstattoos !This one was a fun challenge—an Aztec princess near the elbow, wearing a medallion, leading down to Aztec ruins with a sacrifice scene near the wrist. The entire piece was custom-designed, based on my client’s ideas, and came together over 2-3 sessions

I loved working with the ideas my client brought to me—being able to incorporate Mexican culture into this piece made it both fun and unique to put together. I appreciate my clients for trusting me with their vision. I love working on black and gray compositions especially when bringing cultural and historical themes to life.
